The EZ Lynk 2.0 has quickly become one of the post popular tuning devices on the market and its easy to see why with all of its features. Now with the introduction of the Auto Agent 3.0 combined with custom tuning from Calibrated Power you can turn your 2013 to 2021 6.7L Cummins into the ultimate daily driver!

Not only can the ECM be tuned withe the EZ Lynk devices but the TCM of the 68FE transmission can be tuned as well. This is huge because it means you'll be able to put down more of the power you're able to make to the wheels. This lets you go from a performance tune where you're only able to access 60-70 extra horsepower at the wheels. To a proper +100hp tune with transmission adjustments that improve the lock-up of the torque converter and shift scheduling to enhance power delivery though out the entire usable rev range.  All with the stock emissions system fully intact. Calibrated Power actually offers a range of tuning options to go along with your EZ Lynk tuner and they can vary based on  whether your truck has a built transmission or not. Here's how much power you can expect:

Stock Transmission Tunes:

1. Heavy Tow: +20HP
2. Light Tow:  +40HP
3. Street:   +80HP
4. Race.         :     +100HP

Built Transmission Tunes:

1. Heavy Tow : +40HP
2. Light Tow   : +60HP
3. Street.        : +110HP
4. Race          : +160HP

These are the first 4 upgrades you should make to your 2003-2007, 5.9L Cummins.

If you're just getting into the diesel game with a third-generation Cummins 5.9L you're on the right track. While people say the 12v motors are great for being able to handle lots of power and having lots of upgrades. The 24v is also a very solid choice for both of those same reasons. With more hp from stock than the 12v motors and some beefy internals, like forged rods that can handle over 800hp. There is lots of potential to be had.

It's a great truck from the factory, but if you're anything like the rest of us you're not interested in keeping it stock. Especially with the number of bolt-on upgrades available for the 5.9L. Why not make a great truck even better? Today we will show you the first 4 mods you should do to your 5.9L Cummins turbo diesel.

Must Have Upgrades for Your 2013 - 2018 Cummins 6.7L!

Your 6.7L Cummins NEEDS an upgrade!

The  Ram 2500 and 3500 HD pickups with a Cummins 6.7L are made for towing.  You know that. We know that. Everyone knows that. However, a lot of guys are clueless when it comes to which upgrades are worth it and which ones are a total waste of money.

WILL THESE BE THE RIGHT UPGRADES FOR YOU?

This list is based on an assumed set of circumstances. You have a 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, or 2018 model year Ram 2500 or 3500 equipped with the Cummins 6.7L diesel engine. Your truck is completely stock (no modifications) or very near stock. You have not already deleted the emissions equipment or upgraded major performance components such as the turbocharger or high-pressure fuel system.

Drivers that use their truck as a truck will find this list especially helpful. Towing, commuting, and getting it up and moving when you need it to have to be balanced with reliability and efficiency.  On the other hand, if you're looking to build a competition truck for sled pulling, drag racing or dyno competitions, our recommendations may drastically change.

  • 2013-2018, Cummins 6.7L
  • Stock or Near Stock Truck
  • Drive your truck regularly
  • 68RFE Automatic Transmission
  • Use truck for towing
  • NOT interested in building a race or competition truck
  • Cares about efficiency and reliability
  • Want superior drive-ability

The History of the 5.9L Cummins

The 5.9L Cummins engine has been regarded as revolutionary and has a ton of fans that backed it in its heyday. It's history is even more impressive, we're going to talk about the engine's run from 1989-2007.

1989 - 1993

The Cummins engine had been successful in agriculture implements for a few years prior, so in 1989 Cummins and Chrysler introduced the 12 valve as an alternative the the V8 gas powered Dodge.  It was a hit immediately for those that wanted double the torque and a better option for fuel economy.  These diesel powered trucks were introduced stock with a 160 horsepower rating.  The truck was very simple.  Between 1989-1991 they offered a non-intercooled, turbocharged, and a three-speed automatic transmission, as well as a five-speed manual transmission option. Interestingly it had a rotary style mechanical injection pump.  These were the reason the truck was fuel efficient, but also why the truck lacked power. Another interesting point is how the original injectors were bigger than the next variation which arrived in '91.5.  The updated 12 valve now came with smaller injectors, a larger turbocharger, Cummins would introduce an intercooler to the truck, and the automatic transmission now came equipped with overdrive.

2003-2007 5.9L  DROP-IN CUMMINS TURBO:

After the extensive testing we did in the Cummins Turbo Shootout back in 2013 we learned a few things about Cummins single turbo systems.  This test featured 5 turbo's, recomended by the manufacturer, analyzed and compared side-by-side.

If you read the article featured in Diesel Power Magazine or listened to the episodes we did at the Diesel Performance Podcast then you already know there was no clear 1 winner.  The reality of aftermarket turbo's is you have to sacrafice something to gain something.  So we set out to develop a turbo that could meet our requirements for being a great daily driver, good for managing EGT's while towing and something we could cause havok on the streets with.

Cummins Stealth 64:

  • Great Daily Driver
  • Good for managing EGT's while towing
  • Cause havok on the streets!

1000HP Daily driven Single turbo 5.9 Cummins

Generally the terms "budget" and "1000RWHP" are opposing descriptions.   This build ties the two together while utilizing the highest quality parts in the industry.   The owner, Mitch, who has owned this truck for some time has always envisioned a 4 digit street truck.

If you have been around the Cummins performance community for any length of time you understand how amazing it is to make over 1,000HP on a single turbo setup that is still streetable.  Of course many people have made the power, but with a single turbo the big problem is spool-up and smoke output.  With Mitch's truck we dialed in a parts package and our custom tuning so he could have the best of everything with his truck.

Being the gluten's for punishment that we are, CPS has decided to test the old 'There's no replacement for displacement' adage on this 2011 Ram.

The truck is a 170K mile 2011 Cab and Chassis that we've used to develop our emissions equipped tuning. After reaching 505rwhp and putting the Aisin just about to its useful end we've decided to retire the 6.7L powerplant in favor of its big block counterpart.

Here she is before we initiate our shenanigans.
